Duz anyone know the best 400m ET and at what speed a cop VY would be doing then??? From memory its about a 16.5sec at say 150kph??

Basically the cops have done a follow and time on my datto..which they now say, after first not even knowing the 300m min distance rule till I told the police prosecutor!! They say I was doing 90 in a 70 zone.. its crap.. so I am going to court to prove them wrong.. :)

Is there any websites that post this info?? maybe a spec sheet from motor mag??

Also as far as I know police cars are stock.. (urban vehicles) can anyone confirm??

Cheers fellas

Make sure you ask for the calibration certificate of the cop cars speedo. (HWP cop car speedos are regularly calibrated, general duties cars are not and cannot issue fines in this manner). You need to file a Freedom of Information (FOI) application which costs about $10 requesting the calibration certificate of the car in question. If they are unco-operative the magistrate will adjourn until you get the certificate. If the calibration certificate is out of date, you get straight off, happened to a mate of mine.

That?s not true, actually.
The cost of fitting a chip to the HWP cars is prohibitive.
They simply fit a shorter diff ratio & LSD to them - that's why they go so hard down low...
I had a mate who used to work for Holden

At a workshop where I used to work, we fitted cold air intakes to some of the local HWP cars. They got us to do it so they would have a slight edge when racing HWP cars from the next station   no sh*t they thought it was great.

Of course we did it for free, always pays to be good buddies with the local constabulary - less heat on us then when we were test driving customers cars after performing mods.

good down low = bad top end.

Highway Patrol Cars are therefore sh*t on the Highway?

A few years ago a mate brought a 304 VT ex cop car from the auctions, 55,000k's on the clock. Had a chip, exaust and cold air intake. Was 5 speed too, went well.
Cheers,

Was it a 6 or 8 cyl too that will make a huge difference, your correct in the 300m rule but they have to hold a CONSTANT speed to average yours over a distance if they didnt use a radar. So if your saw them and only travelled say 600m including them turning around there is no way they could have an average speed over that distance.

Cheers fellas

It was definately a 6 cyl.
Mate I asked them how long they were following me for and then they said 80m!! Once I sent in my evidence they decided to change their story. Pretty sad really.. So now I've lost 3 days at work to fight this crap.

It wouldn't really matter what time they can cover the quarter mile, because that would be under 'ideal' conditions. If it was raining, this would be different. etc. etc. Plus there could've been a head wind, etc. etc.

I think what turbovan said is a good thing. Ask for a certificate of calibration for the speedo. It may take a while and a bit of stuffing around, but IMHO it's worth it.

Where you in traffic? You could say that relative to the traffic, you were going about the same speed.

yeah but I can prove that even under ideal conditions they couldn't have done what they did.. so knowing the exact figures with references would be good in court..

so anyone got ideas where i could find that info?? cant be that hard surely

was it a HWP car or just a normal one?

I guess you could call a local Cop shop and say you are doing a school project!

I guess you could 'assume' that it's an SV6 commodore, and just take it from there. <edit 'cause you said it was a V6...not an SS>

Actually, Here's a starting point:

www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_50103/newsarticle.html

Can anyone else help?
