Hi guys, I am new to the forum and am about to embark on a 1600 with SR20DET for track / street use.

This will be our second car, and something the missus will be driving to and from the shops and friends houses. She is ok with race seats and a full cage, but she wanted a/c as part of the "deal".

This is the only way I can get a "race car", so I need to conform to as many requests as possible.

Can anyone offer advice or a knowledgebase so I can research. I have tried using the "search" function, but it came up with nothing.

Thanks in advance guys/girls.

Sho.

I hope this reply doesn't come to late..

I have installed A/C into my 1600..

The spare tire indent in the boot was removed to allow fitment of condensor under the boot.. Lines run to the front and all else is fairly the same as any other aircon ducting etc. the main reason why it's difficult is just that the condesor wont fit in the engine bay..

Cheers,

Mark

yeah I have seen those dash mounted thingys before. Had a chance to buy one from Melb years ago but did not understand the rariety at the time. Oh well.
I am just curious to see the piping and plaement of a rear mounted condenser. Sounds interesting.

cheers

James

What about the ultimate sacrifice? Install an SR20DE VVT and put the condensor in the normal place, in front of the radiator, where the IC was planned to go.

The NA SR with VVT is still a pretty quick jigger in a 1600.

Just a thought if you need to compromise.

Hi James, here are pics of the rear mounted a/c undertrunk condensor, next to it is the I/C water cooler. Pipe run through the passenger side flooring inside with foam around to get a level floor..

cheers,

Thanks Jimmy.. It does the job very-very well.. even midday..

cooling runs through inside with foam on the side to make it an even height, then carpeting over it..

I'm not an expert and had it done, but I would say the complicated part is actually vent ducting behind the small 510 dash..

Not sure about the digital controller, I think toyota starlet gt.. same as my seats..
