did a quick walk around this morning before getting stuck into sanding the front end. http://video.google.com.au/videoplay?do ... 5375908877

I still have to sand the bonnet, but the roof and front guards are just about ready for undercoating.

I found a surprise bogged over crash repair, I thought the front would just be sand and paint....... wrong wrong wrong.

this is a bit of bog that i removed

small crash, was just bogged over, there was heaps of bog in places where i could straighten the metal with my hands, so i have no idea why it was just bogged over

patch welded in

fixed !, didnt take long really.

I am having trouble getting the boot lid the way that i want it, i can see now why they had a heap of filler on it, i might just have to put up with it yet....we'll see.

hopefully tomorrow will see some undercoating happenning !

Ripped the doors of her, pulled the dash out to paint where roll cage goes through the dash.

The interior at the moment is a darker colour to what I have painted the boot and under the bonnet.

cant decide weather to leave the interior darker than the exterior.
might not be enough grey charcoal to do inside and outside.

The interior looks almost black sitting in my garage, much darker than the other colour that I have been using.

thoughts anyone ?

The base coat was free, so its all good i guess :)

Nice work Jeff. Looks like I will have to pull my finger out and get mine started too. Debated the inside color of mine yet again, but it looks like a color which contrasts to black is getting the go ahead. If yours is much darker than in your boot, I'd probably think about something lighter.

Just a tip from one who has recently painted the interior, boot and engine bay (and outside as well) Midnight Black.

Unless you have a very well lit workshop, paint these areas in a light colour.

The light absorbtion when your working in confined areas with black panels is amazing. Unless I have direct sunlight shining through the skylights in my shed, I find it really hard to see what I am doing in the lower engine bay, the boot, and inside the car. I find I am doing some things from memory. e.g. hooking up heater cables under the dash, connecting radio wires, doing up bolts in the firewall around the steering column. I often have to move the car outside to see properly what I am working on and find dropped screws etc.

I thought it was my aging eyesight, but I didn't have the problem working recently in the engine bay of my son's white Subaru.

Good point there.
We painted the engine bays of all our rally cars white.
much easier to see at night when servicing.
Oil leaks, cracking etc are more visible.

lookin good Jeff. dark colours inside the cabin are good - less glare and reflections when driving.

well i posted my entry today and highlighted the colour as charcoal so its going to have to have at least have 1 coat of something greyish on it for the champs :)

Harry, I just hope the metallic isnt too reflective then

still a fair bit of work to be done on the old thing, everything takes forever.
quite a bit of smoothing to be done.

so the long bed is on the mend ?

I have had a problem with chunks flicking out with the paint.
turns out that either the container that its in has a plastic lining or it has had something else in it before and there was plastic bits coming through and popping out in great spurts and also clogging up the gun

I am now straining through a stocking :) seems to work well.

Nah, probably going to have to miss the sprints due to australian hillclimb champs being 2,3,4th November.

due to class changes for national events I'll be competing against danny mischock and gary pitt so not much chance of coming first or second

that looks so much better! Good work Jeff. can't wait to see it all nice and shiney at the AHC. You should have a good dice with Chris Sloane's 1600 I'd say. That will be an interesting battle of old school vs hi-tech. Gary Pitt isn't that far away from your PB either.

I think I'll be down the order in the results in my class too - there should be some proper Sport Sedans coming to the AHC. I'll just be using the weekend as a chance to set a new PB on a nice grippy track.
