Hey guys,

Can I place an isolation switch between Motec unit and fuel pumps? It has been suggested to place it between ignition and Motec relay to isolate Motec unit.

What have you guys done or and auto elects give me the go's and no go's.

If the Motec is anything like a Haltech in this area, it will cut power to the fuel pump[s] within a few seconds of losing an engine RPM signal.
This of course is a safety feature to avoid high pressure fuel happening in the event of an accident.

I have put an E-stop between the relay and the fuel pumps. Works fine.

Put it in the "ignition on" signal wire to the motec, that way it will instantly cut fuel and spark.

Thanks for the feed back but I may have out lined my intension incorrectly.

I have a battery isolator switch in the cabin for an emergency, but as an anti theft (delayed theft option) I was wanting a hidden switch. I have a switch wired into position that will cut power to the pumps, is this ok? Or should I rewire it so the switch will cut power to the Motec it self?

The Motec unit controls the pumps so if it detects no RPM pumps will stop. So really im talking about a switch between motec and the pumps.

There should be no problem going between the ecu and the pumps. I have done it a few times, I like to put the switch in after the relay so when the ignition is on you can heir the relay latch, keeps the would be Thieves guessing.

You probably know already but just be aware some large fuel pumps draw a fair bit of current.
If putting a switch in after the fuel pump relay its important that your switch (and wiring) is capable of switching/running the pump(s) current through them.
So you wont be able to use a small discrete micro switch there for example, or it will fail.
Better to wire a switch in series with the coil of the fuel pump relay which carries hardly any current at all.
Your secret mini micro switch can be easily hidden then and small wiring used to remotely mount the switch wherever you please...
Most good quality switches have a current (amp) rating written on the side of the switch body.
