 Post subject: 1600 coilovers!

Hey all I just this week decided to go coilovers in my 1600 just wonder if anyone's got some advice on what type to run, cheapest, easiest to fit blah blah blah! Some ideas would be much appreciated! I have been told that s13 coilovers will fit but what sorta work would that take?

I used r31 struts with hsd coil over sleaves the kit was $330 in witch ever spring rate you'd like

I have the same set up as this but with r32 calipers and disc and i used z31 shock inserts

I ran R31 struts with a Pedders sleeve kit and EIBACH springs in the front. The rears I bought Techno Toy Tuning coilovers.

In the front of my 1600 its had the spring saddle remove and then a datsport adjustable coil over setup welded onto it. Rears are just standard setup but with lowered kings and adjustable koni's i think. Rear coil overs would be good though, how hard is that to change over?

R31 struts need a higher offset wheel don't they? Something to consider.

Whatever struts you choose, you'll have to have the spring perch cut off, then a threaded sleeve welded on. Here's the Techno Toy Tuning kit that a lot of people use: https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/510/ ... datsun-510

I use trx wheels with my r31 strut with a 205/50/15 tyre and works fairly well but my cars not super low

Yeh for enough I've already got trx rims on it but looking to go work meisters cr01's! I know about the datsport kit but the maddat kit is cheaper what would be the difference?

Hey Guys,

I am looking to putting some coils all around in mine too. Seems the go to is using the struts out of a R31 and converting them over to col with the various kits?? To make sure, Front AND rear fit the 510s??

Any help/info would be REALLY appreciated as I am looking to make a move about these fairly soon. Suspension and then brakes.

You can convert any struts to coilovers with a weld-on kit, but the R31 struts are a popular option. Any rear coilover kit you'll find are all made to fit, there's nothing that bolts straight from another car (as far as I know). There are a few companies that make rear coilovers for our cars, like T3 (techno toy tuning) and Troy Ermish Racing (both in the USA).

MCA suspension make a front and rear coil over kit for a 1600.

Worth giving them a ring to see what they can do.
It is some of the best suspension around and they can cater for any budget

I have actually already emailed them over at MCA. Pretty sure they are going through a stocktake at the moment though... until early Sep.

I'll hold off until i hear from them. Keen to see what they have.

R31 strut allows a slightly wider wheel (clearance to the strut/shock) and also spaces your wheel out a little further than a 240K or 200B strut.
If you are running standard front end (1600 parts), then the 200B or 240K strut is a good place to start.
If running a Datsport 200B style front end, then the R31 strut is a perfect companion, but other struts can be used. Your KPI and scrub radius does change though.
One thing to factor in is your spring rate and spring length. Depending on what you run, you could have your coil over adjustors hitting the tyre if your spring is too long.

Had a good chat with Baz about what I am looking to do in the 510 and, it is looking more and more likely that I'll end up with something from his establishment. A mix of race c/o and R31 brake setup on front and the R31 brake kit and adj rear.

Front are my focus at this stage. I need to be able to move the car on to a trailer at the very least.

one thing I cannot see on their site though, is adj t/c (castor) rods. There is always T3, maddat and futofab. What ever the case, I'll have to get a pair of them soon too.
