Just to clarify what a 'fusible link' is, as they don't look like a fuse.
In cars, they will normally be mounted near the electrical source that has the largest short circuit current rating e.g. the battery
They do act in the same way as any wire based fuse, however if a fusible link has 'blown' there has been a major electrical short circuit in the wiring between the battery and the fuse box. The one in the photo is from an 85 Bluebird and covers 4 individual circuits. The one we are talking about in the 1600 will only be one wire but the principle will be the same. They are normally about 150 mm long

"L" or "Light" connection on alternator to white/red wire that used to go to regulator.

"S" or "Sense" to a white/blue wire that also went to the regulator, this one has 12V when the ignition is switched on.

Also fitted the tacho while I had the dash apart, now to see if I can get it working.......
